Let's setup Ionic Framework

Let's setup Ionic Framework

I am writing this post to help you quickly setup Ionic Framework on your system. I will try to keep it very brief and focused on the setup commands. Let’s get started.

  1. Prerequisites : \ NodeJS (LTS version recommended)
  2. Recommended NPM packages : I recommend installing typescript and angular globally beforehand. If you haven’t already, execute the below, if needed with Admin privileges,
npm install -g @angular/cli typescript
  1. Next, we will install Ionic as a global package,
npm install -g ionic
  1. That’s it, all your dependencies are now in place!

Next, let’s try to validate the installations by executing the following in your terminal/command line,

node -v && tsc -v && ng -v && ionic -v

The above commands should display you the version for NodeJS, Typescript, Angular CLI and Ionic with some additional help texts. If any or none of them work, please check you path to ensure they are present. If you still face an issue, please drop a comment below and I will look into it.

Finally, with our installation in place you can start developing amazing apps using Ionic. To generate a new project using the Ionic CLI run the command below and follow the onscreen choices,

ionic start

Happy Coding !
